CARROT’s appearance can be changed in a number of ways to suit your personal preferences.
You can set the Dock icon to display a badge with the current temperature for your default location. Unlike on iOS, badges on Mac apps can display negative numbers - so you’ll still see the temperature when it gets really, really cold.
You can also opt to hide the Dock icon completely while the app is running. This is great for those who want to use the Mini Window exclusively. (You can still get to the main app by clicking the Mini Window’s settings button.)
If you already dragged CARROT Weather into your Dock or have checked “Keep in Dock” on the icon, the icon won’t stay hidden. To hide it, right click the Dock icon, then uncheck “Keep in Dock” in the options menu.
You can toggle CARROT’s menu bar icon to show the current temperature, the current condition, or both of these at once. Another setting allows you to display the “feels like” temperature instead of the standard temperature.
You can also opt to hide the menu bar icon completely. If you do, you’ll need to use the global shortcut defined in the General preferences to display the Mini Window.
Finally, you can add “precipitation lines” to the Mini Window. These appear as thin lines under each day in the daily forecast. Much like the colored hourly forecast, they give you an idea of exactly when to expect precipitation over the course of that day. Blue denotes precipitation, gray stands for cloud cover, and black represents clear skies.
The Hourly view is perhaps the most powerful view in the entire app. With a quick glance, you can see how the temperature is going to behave over the course of the day, as well as exactly when to expect precipitation, cloud cover, and clear skies.
You can switch the time range of the Hourly view between 12-, 24-, and 48-hour displays.
In addition, you can also opt to always display additional details on the Hourly view, including the chance of precipitation and the wind speed.
