How does CARROT's pricing work?

CARROT Weather is free to download. There's a 7-day free trial available to try out the Premium Club subscription.

There are three subscription levels:

  1. Premium provides additional features like weather data sources, notifications, customization, widgets, and Apple Watch complications.
  2. Premium Ultra includes all the features of Premium, plus rain, lightning, and storm cell notifications (where available), Locations tab forecasts, individual radar stations (U.S. only), a weather maps widget, and quick data source switching.
  3. Premium Family includes all the features of Premium Ultra, with the added benefit of being shareable with up to five family members via Apple’s Family Sharing service.

The subscription is necessary because weather data is very expensive. Without charging extra for the subscription, in just one year it would cost CARROT more to supply weather data than a single upfront payment for the app. So CARROT's Maker either had to charge via a subscription or not add these awesome features at all.

Can you change - or turn off - CARROT's personality?

You can choose one of five personalities for CARROT: professional, friendly, snarky, homicidal, or overkill.

When set to professional, CARROT is just a traditional weather app: no jokes, no fun stuff, just the weather.

Overkill, on the other hand... Well, there's a reason CARROT's Maker had to add a separate profanity filter for this personality.

Does CARROT work worldwide?

Yes! CARROT's weather data sources offer coverage from the North Pole to the South Pole and everywhere in between. 

Some features may be geo-restricted, however. Certain notifications and map layers, for example, are only available in certain countries. See below for more details.

How customizable is CARROT's interface?

CARROT is, quite simply, the most customizable weather app in the world.

Visit the Layout screen to build the weather app of your dreams. Add new components, rearrange them, change their design, insert additional data points, and more. The system is incredibly flexible, allowing you to create entirely different designs to suit your exact needs.

And if you don't feel like building your own layout from the ground up, there are many prebuilt layouts available in the Layout Gallery.

What weather data sources does CARROT use?

By default, CARROT's forecasts are powered by Foreca, one of the world’s most accurate weather services. 

Premium Club members can also use Apple Weather, AccuWeather, Tomorrow.io, OpenWeather, or AerisWeather as alternate data sources. Region-specific sources are available as well: Environment Canada in Canada, Deutscher Wetterdienst in Germany, MeteoFrance in France, MET Norway in Norway, and WillyWeather in Australia.

Subscribers can also hook into data pulled from personal weather stations right in their backyard. WeatherFlow/Tempest and Netatmo stations are directly supported, while any station that connects to PWSweather can be displayed in CARROT as well.

What types of notifications can CARROT send?

CARROT offers a very comprehensive selection of notifications. All notifications require a Premium membership; some of them require a Premium Ultra membership due to the extra data costs involved.

Does CARROT have any Home or Lock Screen widgets?

Yes! The Snark widget shows a snarky comment from CARROT along with a short-term forecast. The Forecast widget shows a more extended forecast. The Hourly and Daily widgets focus on the hourly and daily forecasts, respectively. And the Weather Maps widget displays an assortment of map layers.

Note that a Premium Ultra subscription is required for the Weather Maps widget; a Premium subscription is required for all other widgets.   

What about Apple Watch complications?

CARROT has the most advanced set of weather complications on the App Store: they look nicer, load faster, and display more - and more useful - data than all her competitors.  

Premium members unlock half-hourly background updates as well as complications for every data point imaginable - from wind speed to humidity to cloud cover - as well as the ability to build custom complications that combine two or more data points. 

What are secret locations and how do I find them?

You can unlock 100+ exotic secret locations - like the Moon, Chernobyl, and the Titanic wreck - by following clues left by CARROT. Be warned, though: you're going to get addicted to hunting them down.

Does CARROT really have achievements I can earn?

Yes, you earn achievements by experiencing weather events, traveling the world, and using different features in the app. It will take more perseverance than the typical human possesses to collect them all.

Can CARROT actually change the weather?

There are foolproof security checks in place to ensure that CARROT cannot create a superstorm that will wipe out all humanity.
