Dark Sky is the default weather data source for all users. Premium Club members can additionally access weather data from AccuWeather, ClimaCell, MeteoGroup, Foreca, AerisWeather, Environment Canada, and WillyWeather or from their own personal WeatherFlow or Netatmo weather station.
All weather providers include the same basic data, such as current observations and hourly/daily forecasts. There are some differences between the sources, however.
Dark Sky
- Forecasts for the next 168 hours and the next 7 days
- 60-minute precipitation forecast (available in the US, UK, and parts of Canada)
AccuWeather
- Forecasts for the next 72 hours and the next 10 days
- Air quality index and pollen data
Aeris Weather
- Forecasts for the next 72 hours and the next 14 days
- Choose specific personal weather station from PWSweather.com network
Willy Weather (Australia only)
- Forecasts for the next 120 hours and the next 7 days
- Powered by data from Australia's Bureau of Meteorology
While each of CARROT's data sources are incredibly accurate overall, some sources may have more accurate data for a particular location than others. You can check a site like Forecast Advisor to help you determine which provider works best for your area.
Even though the data is coming from the same source, data sets will rarely match up exactly between CARROT and the source's website because they are loaded at different times and likely use different GPS coordinates as well.
The Netatmo Smart Home Weather Station gives you real-time weather data using measurements gathered from sensors right on your doorstep.
Personal weather station data will be used whenever CARROT retrieves data for a location within approximately 2 miles of your station.
Netatmo modules can be purchased directly from Netatmo or from Amazon.
CARROT can download data from any station that is connected to the PWSweather.com networks. Just look up the station ID, then CARROT will retrieve data from that station whenever you are within 2 miles of it.
Yep! Just double tap the “current” section towards the top of your screen to toggle between displaying data from your primary weather provider and Dark Sky data.
Most likely! New data sources are planned for the future, both worldwide and region-specific. It's also possible that existing data sources may be removed in the future for reasons such as significant pricing changes, low usage, or changes to the source's terms of service.
